27th Jan 2026
Welcome to the ScotCampers fortnightly blog.
This period can be summarised by; bookings; new van; going Downhill.
Bookings. So, 2026 has started for the business with two bookings in the diary for April. Blanca and is going out early in the month and Laura, a little later. Great to be back in business again after, what feels like, a very long break! I’m working with the hirers to assist with route planning – particularly given the busy time of year around Easter holidays – always the time to watch out for motorbikers coming out of hibernation and people towing for the first time for a while. I’m offering a 10% discount on any bookings made by the end of February so please get in touch if you want to take advantage of that.
Hopefully, my hirers will get some weather like this!

Van. Biggest news this month is the purchase of a new van. It’s a newer model than Bilbo – a T6.1 (VW Transporter Campervan model 6.1). My friends at Reborn Campers in Sheffield are busily building it and Kinghorn Camps are keeping us all right on build specs and colours! Reborn converted Bilbo to a high standard and were a logical choice to use again. This will be a nice 4 berth with a navy pop-top and duck egg kitchen. New fridge, sink, gas, rock n’roll bed and swivel front seats. Also windows being fitted along with curtains. Should be ready for collection mid-February and available for booking shortly after that. Being a newer vehicle model, cruise, aircon and Apple play come as standard. Exciting times and will be great to welcome even more guests to experience our lovely country in style.
Here’s a pic of whet the base van will look like and here’s the kitchen choices!

Going Downhill: This can be summed up as trip with my boys and mid-life crisis! Trip first of all sees me, Charlie and Hamish (my boys) popping across to Chamonix for a weekend’s skiing. I haven’t been there for a few years but I remember it was steep! I’ll avoid Vallee Blanche this time (long run off the side of Mont Blanc) given the risks and fact it can take all day to navigate down!
Mid-life crisis comes in the shape of potentially coming out of retirement to start racing downhill mountain bikes again. I “retired” at the tender age of 28 as the number of fractures were starting to build up! Have kept my hand in and in the alps most years and local hills every month at least. I’m now in my 50s and therefore, the field over that age is very, very small in Scotland. Suspect some fast lads there though. First race is the end of May at the Ae forest so will be down there in next few weeks for practice. Watch this space….. Might be the case that I just need to get it out of my system – we’ll see. Here was me in my day in the Alps:

Booking enquiries starting to come in fairly regularly now so would suggest you don’t delay.
Happy to discuss bespoke hires in 2026, based around your needs.
DM me to discuss a 2026 discounted hire rate and until next time, remember, not all those who wander are lost.
