Welcome to the ScotCampers tri-weekly blog.

This period can be summarised by; Chamonix; April full; new van updates.

Chamonix.  A long weekend break from the humdrum last week saw me and my boys off to Chamonix for a couple of days skiing in the amazing mountains.  I was there in the 90s and remember it being a lot steeper (!) but think that’s because I was snowploughing everywhere…..  Went with a couple of mates from the local villages and another couple of teenage boys in tow (who were decent!).  A short weekend can be a bit of a faff, but hey, ho – who doesn’t love a good faff!  Planning to return to Chamonix in the summer to tick off a couple of the walks there.  No doubt that will involve a faff too but ready for it.

Chamonix wasn’t that much of a bother from Edinburgh.  A two hour flight into Geneva and then a transfer of under 2.5 hours.  Put it this way, on the snow by 1.30pm on the Friday.

Here’s me and the boys below – no prizes in guessing the happy skier and the grungy boarder!

April full!  The year is off to a decent start.  I’m almost 12 months into the business so am starting to spot trends.  One I suspected (and my chums at BWAR signposted this too) was that hirers tend to book three months in advance.  That theory seems to be holding water now as over the last three weeks, April has filled.  I only have two hire-free days so it’s an encouraging start.

Remember there is a 10% discount for anyone booking by the end of this month so don’t be shy!

Next one to crack will be May (in my view, the best month for weather in Scotland) and then on my mind that I didn’t get any hires at all last June and July so will be promoting in a couple of months.

New van:  Van build is coming along nicely.  If you’re not close to this process, my builders (Reborn Campers, Sheffield) have sourced a sound, lower mileage panel van.  From this it’s a case of insulating the interior, cutting slots for windows in the rear and also the roof for the pop-up top.  Then it’s down to plumbing in electrics (a leisure battery for off-grid), gas, water and then kitchen fit.  Then will be a case of installing a rock ‘n roll bed in the rear and a swivelling front seat, making meals more sociable.  Hopefully ready for the new season in about three weeks.  Here’s progress last week:

Should be a lovely van once finished and look forward to meeting the new wave of adventurers this season!

Booking enquiries starting to come in fairly regularly now so would suggest you don’t delay.

Happy to discuss bespoke hires in 2026, based around your needs.

DM me to discuss a 2026 discounted hire rate and until next time, remember, not all those who wander are lost.
