Blog 8th October 2025
Welcome to the ScotCampers fortnightly blog.
Last couple of weeks summarised by, guests (Kris, Kate and Nick), van servicing, Socials.
So, guests first. Kris, a professional videographer, landed from Poland last week and an interesting story. He was covering a fellow national who was running across Scotland. Was tricky route planning as overnights couldn’t be predicted due to the runner’s pace and progress. So, a loose plan was thrown together around Loch Laggan stay and Aviemore. Then a proposed bounce down the A9 and across at Pitlochry to pick up the eastern leg across the Cairngorms. Sometimes, I just love the variety of my job!
Kate and Nick were cracking guests. Up for a wedding in the auld reekie (Edinburgh) and then bounced to me for a van hire. Initial plan was visiting Loch Tay, ahead of motoring up to Arisaig. Helped them with a decent walk above Loch Tay. I’ve done all the Munros up there a few times and an easy enough one is Ghlas/Ben Lawers. Weather was against them so it was Beinn Ghlas only which has some cracking views south across Loch Tay. As the name suggests, this loch is the source of the might river Tay which clatters down from Kenmore, through Aberfeldy onto the world class kayak course in Grandtully. Unfortunately, they were caught up in Storm Amy which was a bit exciting….. Not a time to pop the roof up in the van. I had the pleasure of taking my old school superbike back up from England just ahead of the peak winds and was a bit nervy! No traction, no ABS and 170hp under you certainly sharpens the senses!

Once I defrosted from the commute from England (three drams, a bath and two days), theme was maintenance. Turns out Bilbo has covered 11,000 miles since March so was time for service. Also time for brake replacement. While at it, van 2 (Stormcrow) serviced as well. So, that’s them for another 12m/12,000 miles. Peace of mind for me and guests.
Socials. So, this is a dark art to me around creating a presence online which, as well as promoting the brand, gets new customers. I was fortunate enough to secure support from Sophie who set up and runs https://sophiegetssocial.com. She helped me get off my erratic/chaotic plan around online presence and gave me a structure, which was great. ScotCampers is active across FB, Insta and TikTok. The downside was the photo shoot last week……. So, off I reluctantly trotted to the local, Falkirk Wheel for Sophie and her colleague to video and take some stills. I’d compare to a trip to the dentist for root canal. I am yet to see the outputs but seriously, appreciate Sophie’s input. I would hazard a guess that she has around 30 years on me so slightly more relevant…!
Next time will be around the season finale – back to back in October up until first week in November. One booking for Christmas day and then all about 2026.
Until next time however, remember, not all those who wander are lost.
